Home Inventory Tracker
A home inventory is a room-by-room record of everything you own — with proof. When a claim is filed, insurers ask for exactly this. Document it now, before you need it, and a denial becomes much harder to justify.
What to record for every item
For each possession, capture the details that prove ownership and value: item name, category, room, brand, model, serial number, quantity, purchase date, purchase price and replacement cost. A serial number alone can settle an ownership dispute; a receipt photo proves what you paid.
- Electronics — model + serial number are essential for theft recovery
- Appliances — photograph the data plate with make, model and serial
- Jewellery — close-up photos plus any valuation or receipt
- Tools, furniture, clothing, sports gear — brand and purchase year
Photos and receipts are your evidence
Attach item photos and receipt images directly to each entry. Photos are compressed on your device so the vault stays fast. Original files never leave your device — everything is stored locally.
Receipts matter more than most people realise. If your insurer disputes the value, a purchase receipt or bank statement turns a negotiation into a settled fact.
Actual cash value vs replacement cost
Policies pay out on one of two bases. Replacement cost is what it costs to buy new today. Actual cash value (ACV) is replacement cost minus depreciation. ClaimVault tracks both, applies straight-line depreciation with category-specific useful lives, and shows a recommended "insure for" amount so you are not underinsured.
Common questions
How long should I keep receipts?
As long as you own the item. Digital copies are fine for most insurers — photograph paper receipts before they fade.
Do I need to list every single item?
Group low-value items by category (clothing, kitchenware, books) and itemise anything over your excess or of high value. Focus effort where a claim would pay out.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Everything is stored locally in your browser. ClaimVault is fully client-side — no account, no server, no telemetry.
